PHOENIX-OoC at DA-PBA 2026: Prof. Fabiana Arduini Receives International Award
The 13th International Symposium on Drug Analysis and the 36th International Symposium on Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis (DA-PBA 2026) took place at Ghent University in Belgium from 6 to 9 July 2026.
The symposium brought together leading representatives of academia, industry and regulatory authorities to discuss recent advances in pharmaceutical and biomedical analysis. The scientific programme addressed analytical methodologies, therapeutic monitoring, innovative biomedical technologies and the growing role of artificial intelligence in the field.
Prof. Fabiana Arduini, coordinator of the PHOENIX-OoC project, participated as a Plenary Speaker and delivered a lecture entitled “Paper-based electrochemical (bio)sensors for smart and sustainable biomedical applications”.
During her presentation, Prof. Arduini introduced the latest achievements of her research group in developing paper-based electrochemical biosensors for rapid, affordable and environmentally sustainable biomedical analyses. She demonstrated how the porosity, flexibility, biodegradability and capillary-driven fluid transport of paper can be used to create advanced sensing platforms for detecting clinically relevant biomarkers.
The lecture highlighted the evolution of paper-based devices from simple analytical tools into integrated platforms with significant potential for point-of-care diagnostics, decentralized healthcare and personalized medicine.
The presentation also provided an important opportunity to showcase the scientific progress achieved within the PHOENIX-OoC project and to promote paper-based electrochemical biosensors as sustainable analytical platforms for next-generation biomedical diagnostics.
Award of the Belgian Society of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Analytical Chemistry
A particular highlight of the event was the presentation of the 2026 International Award of the Belgian Society of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Analytical Chemistry to Prof. Arduini. The award recognised her outstanding scientific contributions to the development of innovative electrochemical biosensing technologies.
Participation in DA-PBA 2026 further strengthened the international visibility of the PHOENIX-OoC project, supported scientific exchange and opened new opportunities for future collaboration within the pharmaceutical and biomedical analysis community.
