Phoenix-OoC Project Presented at 19th Medical Chemical Defense Conference

Prof. Fabiana Arduini from Tor Vergata University (Italy) participated as an invited speaker at the prestigious 19th Medical Chemical Defense Conference, held from April 2–3, 2025, at the Bundeswehr Medical Academy in Munich, Germany.

This high-level international conference gathered world-renowned experts in the field of medical countermeasures against chemical warfare agents. The sessions focused on nerve agent and sulfur mustard poisoning, opioid poisoning, and current chemical threats.

Prof. Arduini presented the Phoenix-OoC project, highlighting how organ-on-a-chip technologies, especially paper-based devices like Phoenix-OoC, are emerging as essential platforms in toxicological research and defense applications. She shared insights into how these systems offer new possibilities for studying toxic mechanisms and developing effective therapeutic strategies.

Her presentation also referenced a recent publication in Analytical Chemistry, showcasing the potential of paper-based organ-on-a-chip models for CBRN toxicology research, a critical advancement in the field of medical chemical defense.
