Phoenix-OoC Presented at “Why Not Women in Science? – Accelerating Equity” Event in Rome
📍 Tor Vergata University, Rome, Italy
📅 February 11, 2025
To mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the Department of Chemical Science and Technologies at Tor Vergata University joined the global initiative led by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) by hosting a Global Women’s Breakfast (GWB) event. Themed “Why Not Women in Science? – Accelerating Equity”, the event welcomed around 50 participants — students, researchers, and faculty — for a morning of reflection, dialogue, and inspiration.
Among the featured speakers was Prof. Fabiana Arduini, coordinator of the Phoenix-OoC project, who delivered a powerful talk blending personal narrative and professional insight. Prof. Arduini shared her journey through science and her experience leading a multidisciplinary European research project. She highlighted the Phoenix-OoC initiative’s mission and values, drawing a creative parallel between the project’s purple color identity — representing transformation, creativity, and resilience — and the broader movement for gender equity in science.
Her talk resonated with the event’s core message: gender should never be a barrier to pursuing a scientific career. The session became not just a celebration of women’s contributions in STEM, but also a call to action to foster inclusion, opportunity, and equity.
The Global Women’s Breakfast at Tor Vergata was a vivid reminder that building a more equal scientific community requires ongoing engagement, honest conversations, and collective effort — values the Phoenix-OoC project proudly supports and promotes.
