Open Lab Day at the Faculty of Technical Sciences

On 19 March, 2026 the Faculty of Technical Sciences (FTS) in Novi Sad welcomed students from a gymnasium and a technical school from Subotica as part of an Open Lab Day visit. The aim of the visit was to introduce them to the FTS’s study programs, laboratory infrastructure, and current research in multidisciplinary engineering fields.

During their visit, the students toured several laboratories, including the Laboratory for Micro, Nanoelectronics and Bioelectronics, where they were introduced to cutting-edge research in the field of organ-on-a-chip (OoC) technology through the Phoenix project.

The presentation showed how complex biological environments can be recreated on a microscale by combining microfluidics, advanced materials, and biomedical engineering. Students learned how high-resolution fabrication processes use photopolymers to produce complex microstructures and microfluidic channels.

Special attention was given to the role of these platforms in the development of next-generation solutions for drug testing and disease modeling, offering a more precise and sustainable alternative to conventional approaches. In addition, students were introduced to the characterization methods used in the laboratory, including flow analysis, mechanical and optical characterization, and device performance evaluation.

The Open Lab Day highlighted the multidisciplinary nature and societal importance of contemporary engineering research, while also giving students a valuable opportunity to explore potential future study and career paths in science and engineering.
