Participation of the University of Rome Tor Vergata Team at the XXII European Conference on Analytical Chemistry – EUROANALYSIS 2025, Barcelona
The research team from the University of Rome Tor Vergata (UNITOV), participating within the framework of the EU-funded PHOENIX project, took part in the XXII European Conference on Analytical Chemistry – EUROANALYSIS 2025, held from 31 August to 4 September 2025 in Barcelona, Spain.
The conference, organized by the EuChemS Division of Analytical Chemistry and the Catalan Chemical Society (SCQ), brought together over 800 participants from academia, industry, regulatory bodies, and policy institutions to discuss the future of analytical science.
Under the theme “Analytics 5.0: Answering Societal Challenges”, EUROANALYSIS 2025 focused on how analytical chemistry can contribute to solving major global issues aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The program covered topics such as green and sustainable analytical techniques, smart sensors, real-time monitoring tools, and the use of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data in analytical research and industry.
The UNITOV team presented a poster entitled “Paper-based (bio)sensors for multianalyte detection in a novel Origami Organ-on-a-Chip Device: PHOENIX-OoC”. The presentation highlighted the PHOENIX-OoC project, which aims to develop a sustainable, paper-based Organ-on-a-Chip platform combining origami scaffolds and microfluidics for 3D cell culture with integrated screen-printed electrochemical (bio)sensors for real-time biomarker monitoring.
Preliminary results included the development and calibration of paper-based sensors for pH, nitrate, and glucose detection, demonstrating the potential of low-cost, eco-friendly analytical devices for biomedical and environmental applications.
