BES 2026 Symposium in Bari

Laura Belcastro from UNITOV participated in the XXIX International Symposium on Bioelectrochemistry and Bioenergetics of the Bioelectrochemical Society – BES 2026, held from 21 to 25 June 2026 in Bari, Italy.

The international symposium brought together more than 300 participants from academia, research institutions and industry to exchange knowledge and present the latest advances in bioelectrochemistry, bioenergetics and related interdisciplinary fields.

The scientific programme covered a wide range of topics, including bioelectrochemical mechanisms and modelling, bioelectrocatalysis for sustainable synthesis and bioremediation, microbial electrochemical systems, bioelectrochemical energy conversion, electroactive biointerfaces for cell and tissue stimulation, micro- and nanoarchitectures for bioelectrochemical applications, and smart biointerfaces for biosensing and diagnostics.

During the symposium, Laura presented the poster “Tuning Nitrogen-doped Graphene-Prussian blue hybrid interfaces for enzymatic immobilisation and electrochemical sensing”.

The poster presented the development of an electrochemical enzyme-based glucose biosensor intended for future integration into Organ-on-Chip platforms. This work contributes to the PHOENIX-OoC objective of advancing real-time monitoring technologies for in vitro biomedical applications.

The presented research was carried out through collaboration across several EU-funded projects, creating synergies between PHOENIX-OoC and initiatives coordinated by Prof. Otyepka, including GRADINK, FunGraB, UP2Dchem, SUSNANO, Trans2Dchem and 2D-Chemistry.

The poster attracted interest from researchers in the fields of bioelectrochemistry, electrochemical sensing and biosensors. Participation in BES 2026 provided an important opportunity to disseminate the project’s scientific results, exchange technical knowledge, receive feedback from the scientific community and establish new contacts for future collaboration.
