Keynote Lecture at the 76th Annual Meeting of the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE 2025), Mainz
From September 7th to 12th, 2025, the 76th Annual Meeting of the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE) was held in Mainz, Germany, bringing together leading scientists, young researchers, and industry professionals to exchange the latest insights and innovations in electrochemistry.
On Tuesday, September 9th, Prof. Fabiana Arduini, coordinator of the EU-funded PHOENIX project from University of Rome Tor Vergata (UNITOV), delivered a Keynote Lecture entitled “The roadmap in the electrochemical paper-based analytical devices”.
Her presentation outlined the research group’s roadmap for the development of paper-based electrochemical analytical devices, emphasizing their sustainability, affordability, and versatility. These platforms are emerging as a new class of point-of-care diagnostic tools capable of supporting decentralized, patient-centered healthcare.
Prof. Arduini discussed how her team’s work contributes to disease monitoring, early diagnosis, and continuous patient follow-up, demonstrating how these devices can bridge the gap between laboratory research and real-world medical applications.
In line with the broader ISE 2025 discussions on sustainability, materials, energy, and biomedical innovation, her lecture also looked ahead to the future integration of paper-based systems with digital and wearable technologies, paving the way toward faster, more accessible, and personalized healthcare diagnostics.
